This year’s home in Morrison, Colorado features truly dreamy outdoor living spaces.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
With more than 35 years of experience, Designs by Sundown pushes boundaries and thinks outside the box. Based in Littleton, Co., this talented team tackles complex projects and delivers exceptional results. Their expertise and attention to detail made them a good fit for the HGTV® Dream Home 2023.
“We showed what we were capable of in the initial interview process, and in just a couple of weeks were selected as the landscape designer for the project,” said Matthew Underly, Senior Landscape Designer of Designs By Sundown.
With a bachelor’s in landscape design and years of experience working with Belgard products, Underly was well-equipped to help create an exceptional outdoor living design. Even at his first site visit, he had a clear vision to create a functional, stylish backyard featuring Belgard products.
Next Level Hardscape Design
The tight one-month turnaround time put the team’s skills to the test. The mountainside landscape created unique challenges but also opportunities for innovation. With expertise in creating natural water features and two crews dedicated to the project, Sundown was able to construct the multi-level outdoor space in the short time allowed. Belgard’s cutting-edge hardscape products were easily incorporated into the design to enhance both the functionality and beauty of the space.
“There are many things to consider when working on a design in that type of terrain — elevation, slope, weather, seasons, the list could go on,” said Underly. “But having the opportunity to put my knowledge to use and create a next-level landscape design was an honor.”
Underly saw this project as an opportunity to showcase his creative talents and go beyond traditional landscape design. The substantial grade changes on the site allowed him to create a tiered outdoor living area, maximizing the available space and adding visual interest to the design.
A Breathtaking Outdoor Living Space
As you approach the home, you are greeted by beautiful Origins™️and Dimensions™️ pavers lining the driveway. The team carefully placed the pavers to enhance the natural environment. Their clean lines and smooth finishes contrast perfectly with the rugged mountainous terrain.
Belgard’s Landing™️ Steps take you up from the driveway to the layered backyard area. The combination of Sterling Wall® and Origins pavers create a natural texture throughout the outdoor seating and fire pit areas. These are enhanced by the flagstone-like Mega-Arbel® pavers around the fire pit.
The outdoor kitchen features the industry-leading Artforms™️ panel system. The smooth concrete panels create the perfect countertops, enhanced by Belgard Elements for the perfect cooking and dining area.
